Shelter - Refugio POQUEIRA

Description

85 beds Paid 2488m

It is located at an altitude of 2,500 meters, on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada over the Poqueira Ravine, on the left bank of the Mulhacén River, above the confluence of this river with Rio Seco, in the Hoya de Peñón Negro.

It is a strategic point at the foot of the imposing Mulhacén.

It has to the northwest a wonderful perspective of the peaks of Veleta and Cerro de los Machos. Towards the south a great emptiness of valleys opens that at the bottom they hit with Mountain range Lujar, the Mediterranean and the north of Africa, that is seen from the door of the refuge.

The refuge is owned by the CMM and the National Park and is managed by the Andalusian Mountaineering Federation and by us (Ansi Moslero and Rafa Quintero) as the Official Nursery Team, which have been permanently open since its inauguration in 1997, with the invaluable help from friends-collaborators and assistants without whom it would not be possible.
