Shelter - Refugio de Peñón Colorao

Description

To access the refuge from the village of Laranjon (from Granada direction Motril on the A-44 where at exit 157 we arrive at Nigüelas or continue up to 164 to Laranjon) since the refuge can be accessed by both towns.
From here follow the indications to the Laguna del Caballo until you reach the refuge, where you will continue until you reach the Larangon river and around you will find the Peñon Colorao refuge.
From Laranjon follow the river Laranjon where several kilometers past Tello, the free refuge Ventura, and the refuge of the horse that is to our left, always following the river, we will arrive until the refuge Peñon Colorao, and it costs to find it.
It can also be accessed from the Sierra Nevada ski resort through the refuge of Elorrieta to reach the Lanjarón Valley

The Refugio de Peñon Colorao is located in the Lanjarón Valley, at an altitude of 2,840m, and at the height of Tajos Altos, next to the Lanjarón River. It owes its name to the fact of being next to some big reddish rocks. It is easy not to see it until you are practically at your side, since it is a color very similar to the surrounding terrain.
It is not in good condition, in fact it is practically in ruins, without a door or windows, although in case of need it can be of some use. It has capacity for about 15 people, although the interior is in quite bad condition, dirty and without any comfort. When there are no doors or windows, it is not advisable to spend the night in winter, since the wind circulates inside almost with more force than outside, when there are currents between the two doors of the refuge.

In winter, snow is usually introduced inside, so if the temperature rises 0 degrees, the ground becomes a large puddle.
Water can be found in the Lanjarón River, a few meters from the refuge.
