Shelter - Refugio de Illa

Description

12 beds Free to use 2488m

The refuge of the Illa (2,480 m altitude) is built of stone and is in the Gargantillar, just below the pond of the Illa.

It has capacity for 60 people. The refuge of the Illa was inaugurated in the year 1981, it is large and very wide. It has 2 rooms with bunk beds without mattress, fireplace, table to cook and water next. You can access it by car to Engolasters and from there walk up Coll Jovell, following the Madriu Valley. The walking tour is about 4 hours and a half with a difference of 1,290 meters.

It is an unguarded refuge, which is open all year, although maintenance is usually done during the summer months (cleaning, firewood, first aid kit ...). There is no coverage for mobile phone and the level of difficulty of the walking tour to the refuge is difficult.

Construction work for the Illa guarded refuge in the Madriu Perafita-Claror valley

The construction works of the Illa's guarded refuge in the Madriu-Perafita-Claror valley began at the beginning of this month of June. As of June 29, works in the free zone are expanded, limiting the capacity of the current refuge. For the trekking practitioners, the old free shelter with a capacity for 15-20 places will be available. For security reasons, during the day the stay in the refuge can also be restricted.
